PAINT POURÂ đź«—

Create stunning, colorful works of art using the paint-pouring technique. Fluid art offers endless creative possibilities for artists of all ages. Will you choose a canvas or a figurine? Will you start with a black base or a white base? Which colors will you mix? What pouring techniques will you experiment with? The possibilities are endless!
What is Paint Pour?
Paint pour, or fluid art, is a technique where different acrylic colors are blended to create vibrant, swirling, and entirely unique pieces. No two creations are alike! Choose to pour on a canvas or one of our adorable 3D figurines, including bunnies, bears, KAWS figures, and more. 2D and 3D fluid art techniques differ, so we’ll guide you through each step depending on your chosen project.
Steps for 3D Fluid Art (Figurines)
Choose Your Figure – We offer various-sized bears and bunnies, along with occasional balloon dogs and KAWS figures.
Prepare Your Environment – Fluid art can get messy—wear gloves and an apron to protect your clothes and hands.
Add Base Color (optional)- All figurines start unpainted. A base color covers the entire figurine, preventing gaps after the pour. Black and white are the most common base colors, but feel free to choose any color—red, blue, purple, or whatever inspires you.
Choose Your Paint Pour Color – Select 3–5 paint colors for your project. Using too many colors can result in a muddy appearance. Our staff will prepare the paint cocktail for you.
Not sure which colors to pick? Try one of our pre-selected “themed paint pour” color combinations.
Paint Pour Time – Time for the funnest part! Hold your figure at an angle and pour the paint slowly, covering as much of the surface as you like. Your project is yours to customize—get creative and have fun!
- Cover the entire figurine with paint pour
- Half-and-half pour with two different colors on each side
- Cover parts of the figure, and leave other parts with the base shade
Pro Pouring Tips
- Use a spoon to recapture excess paint and pour it back onto your figurine.
- Rotate your figurine while pouring for maximum coverage.
- Use a paintbrush only to touch up voids, not to move the fluid paint, as this can muddy the colors.
- Fluid paint requires several days to set. Figurines are typically ready for pickup in about one week.
- Shipping is available for out-of-town customers (shipping & handling fees apply—please inquire in advance).

Canvas Paint Pour

The second option is to pour paint on a canvas. Pouring paint onto a canvas opens up endless opportunities for creativity. Unlike 3D figures, the flat surface of a canvas allows you to manipulate paint with precision, making it ideal for detailed effects. Preparation is similar to 3D pouring, with a few important differences.
Choose Your Canvas – We offer small, medium, and large canvases. Pick the size that best suits your vision.
Prepare Your Environment – Our staff will:
- Apply gesso if needed
- Tape the borders of the canvas to prevent spillage
- Place painters’ pyramids under the canvas to lift it off the table
You’ll also want to wear gloves and an apron to protect yourself from splashes.
Paint Pour Time – Select 3–5 paint colors. Too many can create a muddy appearance. Our staff will mix your paint for you, or you can choose from pre-selected “themed” color combinations.
Pouring Techniques
- Dirty Pour: Layer several colors in a cup and pour onto the canvas for a marbled, abstract effect.

- Flip Cup: Flip the cup upside down onto the canvas (or place the canvas on the cup and flip them together) for a gradual spread of colors.
- Split Cup: Keep colors separate in a split cup to create distinct, sharply defined patterns.

- Dutch Pour: Cover the canvas with a thick base color. Pour small amounts of other colors in lines, rings, or puddles, and add more base color to create layered effects.
These are just a few examples—you can also invent your own techniques!
Manipulate & Enhance Your Paint – After pouring, lift, tilt, and rotate the canvas to spread the paint and create unique patterns. Additional effects include:
- Silicone Oil: Add drops after each layer to create “cells,” resembling bubbles. Toothpicks can also help form cell effects.

- Blowout: Use a hair dryer on a low, cool setting to spread the paint. Short bursts from a distance prevent excessive distortion. You can also blow through a straw for localized effects.

- Blow Torch: Remove unwanted air bubbles. Our staff can assist with this step.
Get Creative: Common household items can add interesting textures and designs:
- Forks for dragging paint across the canvas
- Colanders or strainers for a spray effect
- Balloons for flower-like patterns
We provide a selection of tools for experimenting—ask our staff for guidance.

Canvas vs. 3D Figures: Which Should You Choose?
Canvas: Ideal for adults who enjoy techniques, paint manipulation, and creative experimentation. You can add cells, apply touch-ups, and use tools to spread paint for complex designs.
3D Figures: Trendy, decorative, and simpler to complete. Great for children or anyone who wants a fun, ready-to-display piece with minimal post-pour work.
